Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, has announced that the UK list price will go up from 1 September 2025, bringing it in line with other European countries. Whilst the medicine itself isn't changing, the price adjustment will affect what providers charge.
It's important to note that:
• The increase affects everyone paying privately, whether from pharmacies to private clinics. All digital providers must follow the new pricing.
• The price increase will affect all doses of Mounjaro, from 2.5mg up to 15.0mg.
• There are no clinical changes. The formulation, strength and safety profile of Mounjaro remain the same.
• This decision has come from the manufacturer of Mounjaro, not the providers.
Why Is the Price of Mounjaro Changing?
This adjustment is intended to bring UK pricing in line with other developed countries. When Mounjaro first launched in the UK, it was priced lower to support early patient access. According to Eli Lilly, evolving market conditions and new data have now justified the change they are making to the pricing. Since Mounjaro can only be purchased from the manufacturer, any shift in the list price has a knock-on effect on what patients ultimately pay.
What Does This Mean for You?
This price change affects all UK providers, whether you're purchasing Mounjaro through a pharmacy, private clinic or digital health service. Every patient purchasing Mounjaro privately will be impacted by the manufacturer's decision to raise its wholesale costs from 1st September.
At Curate, we understand how disruptive unexpected price shifts can be, especially when you're committed to a treatment plan that supports your long-term health. That's why we're sharing this update early, so you have time to make informed choices and avoid any surprises.
Whilst we continue working to keep Mounjaro as accessible as possible to the appropriate patients, it's worth noting that Wegovy may now be the more affordable option for some patients. If you're exploring alternatives or want to understand the differences, our team is here to guide you through it.
Your care should be proactive, not reactive and we're here to help you stay ahead.
Understanding More about Wegovy
We understand that a sudden price increase can make it harder to continue with your current treatment. That's why many patients are now exploring Wegovy, a clinically proven alternative that's currently more affordable for most people in the UK.
Here's some more information about Wegovy, to help you make an informed decision:
Comparable Weight Loss Outcomes
Wegovy's upcoming 7.2mg dose (expected later this year) showed an average weight loss of 20.7% in the STEP-UP trial. These results closely match those seen with higher-dose Mounjaro*.
Heart Health Benefits
Wegovy is currently the only GLP-1 medication licensed in the UK to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke in people with obesity and established heart disease. Whilst we are not prescribing for this indication, these benefits can still be seen.
Affordability and Accessibility
With Mounjaro's price increase taking effect from 1st September, Wegovy has become the more accessible option for many patients. If you're weighing your options, this shift could make Wegovy a more practical choice without compromising on results. Please ask our team for more information.
Thinking About Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy?
Switching medications isn't necessarily about starting over, it's about continuing your progress with confidence and care. At Curate, we take a personalised, clinically informed approach to help you transition safely and effectively.
Your treatment history matters. That's why we tailor your starting dose of Wegovy based on how you've responded to Mounjaro, your side effect profile and your overall progress, not just a standard protocol.
How Switching Works
• If you've experienced side effects like nausea, bloating, or digestive discomfort, we may recommend a more gradual starting dose. This helps your body adjust and reduces the chance of symptoms returning.
• If you've responded to Mounjaro well, we may suggest a higher starting dose of Wegovy to maintain momentum.
• Assuming you respond well to Wegovy, your dose will still increase every 4 weeks, just as with Mounjaro, until you reach your optimal level—the one that consistently manages appetite and supports weight loss.
• Your starting dose is uniquely yours. We consider your clinical history, current dose, duration of treatment, side effect patterns and response to therapy.
• You may be advised of a waiting period before starting the alternative weight loss treatment. Our prescribers will help you decide what's best for you.
Switching to Wegovy will be subject to eligibility and prescribers approval.
