Frequently asked questions:
What are Mounjaro and Wegovy?
Mounjaro and Wegovy are both weight loss treatments and work in similar ways.
Mounjaro contains the active ingredient tirzepatide which mimics two natural hormones -
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide).
This helps to regulate blood sugar levels, reduce cravings and enhance feelings of fullness;
the action of the two hormones combined can mean a stronger effect. All of these actions
result in weight loss.
Wegovy contains the active ingredient semaglutide which mimics the hormone GLP-1. This
helps to regulate appetite and food intake. It does not mimic GIP and therefore weight loss
can be slower.
Both are once-weekly injections and work by:
- suppressing your appetite;
- making you feel fuller for longer; and
- slowing down the rate that food leaves your stomach.

What dose will I be on?
If you are switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy, it is really important that you are switched to
an appropriate dose. Following receipt of your online consultation, a prescriber will contact
you to discuss your weight loss journey and the most appropriate dose to minimise side
effects, if deemed necessary.
Will I experience any side effects?
Since both weight loss injections work similarly, most people transition smoothly with
minimal side effects. If you’ve so far responded to Mounjaro well, you’ll likely be similar on
Wegovy. It’s possible that you will experience some side effects such as mild nausea or
stomach upset for a couple of weeks as your body adjusts, although some people will notice
no difference. However, it is recommended that you reduce the portion sizes and fat content
of your meals in an effort to minimise side effects during the transition period.
Our prescribing team will recommend a suitable dose based on your previous medical
history and will gradually increase your dose to minimise any side effects.
Will I gain weight while I switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy?
Your body’s response to different medications will likely result in some differences in your
weight. For some, their weight loss rate may slow, for others it’s possible it will level-off or
increase slightly. However, your weight loss journey should not be viewed as a short-term
event; the best way to maintain momentum on your journey is to continue with your weekly
injection schedule, healthy eating habits and exercise.
What happens next?
We will keep you informed of changes to our pricing as well as any clinical updates that may
need to be made from time to time. In the meantime, we really value your continued loyalty to Curate, and look forward to continue to support you going forward.
